Latest News from Llysfaen Primary School
On Thursday 7th, Llysfaen's tag rugby team went out to play against Glyn-Coed and came back with a win by 4 tries.
The game was close as they were a good team but as Llysfaen pushed through they grabbed the victory against Glyn-Coed becoming victorious against them. The Llysfaen team consisted of a mixture of boys and girls and lots of them who were playing their first games! Awesome to see. Onto the next :)
World book day was on Thursday 7th March and is a day to celebrate books and their authors. Each child came to school dressed as a book character of their choice.
There were some incredible costumes as always and the teachers put in just as much effort as the children, if not more!
Parents ordered Wonka chocolate bars from the PTFA that were delivered on world book day. Inside the chocolate bars there were golden tickets. Only 60 of the 500 chocolate bars that were on sale had golden tickets inside.
Everyone enjoyed world book day and had a great time.
On the 5th of March the Year sixes had a match against Llanishen Fach and beat them 12-4. Everyone was very happy that they won because last time they had a match against Llanishen Fach, they lost. The adults that watched the match really enjoyed it because the children played really well and it was fun to watch. There were two teams, the red team and the blue team, the red goalkeeper and the blue goal attack were the players of the match for Llysfaen!
On the 7th of March (only 2 days later!) the Year sixes played a Netball match against Coed Glas and beat them 18-0, there were 4 quarters and two teams, a red team and a blue team and the children played each quarter perfectly and didn’t concede a single goal! All the adults that watched the match said that the children played amazingly and the Llysfaen's red centre was voted player of the match by the Coed Glas.
Mr Jones did however, single out the defensive players in assembly as without them, the performance wouldn't have been nearly as impressive!
Over the last two weeks Year 6 have had the amazing opportunity to have some amazing cycling instructors come into school and teach everyone how to be safe on the road whilst cycling! Each class had 4 days of the instructors helping to teach them the rules of the road. Each day they would help us build our confidence on bikes and it was a really fun and enjoyable experience.
One child from 6GJ said: the cycling was fun and we learnt a lot about cycling safely on the road.
A child in 6BC said: I learnt alot from the cycling instructor and they helped me gain confidence.
A child in 6GJ said: Cycling was really fun!
One child in 6BC: I thought that it was very fun because we got to learn new things.
They were super kind and helpful and we are so grateful to have had them come to our school.
From the 28th of February to the 1st of March the Llysfaen Eisteddfod was held. For the first time ever, the Eisteddfod was held over three days. There was everything from the art competition to the recitation. Everyone had lots of fun and worked incredibly hard.
Then on Friday, the bardic ceremony was held. The finalists were called and then it was time for the crowning of the Bard. The name of the Bard was called out and then the Bard had the crown and the cloak placed on them. The flower dancers then danced around the winning Bard before they then read out their poem and their parents came in. The Bard was given a Welsh love spoon, a dragon toy and a daffodil pin.
As for the house points, Ty Coch won the Eisteddfod by 5 house points, only just beating Ty Melyn. Everyone had lots and lots of fun and thank you to the staff for such a brilliant day.
On Monday, the Year 6 boys faced an unfortunate loss against Ton Yr Ywen. The score was 6-2, but they were a good side. During the match the players worked hard and managed to score two goals an hit the post numerous times!
Our player of the match was Harry from 6GJ. Harry said “I thought we were not passing and communicating enough but we still managed to score two."
The girls played on the other pitch and managed to come out on top in another tough match. They're on fire at the moment!
Eco committee is a committee where we try to help the planet and try to encourage people not to litter. On top of this we work as a team to try and improve the school's eco footprint through new ideas and schemes.
We have just elected a new Eco Committee!
As part of the new eco committee, I can say it was a challenging process where lots of people put themselves forward. We are now in the process of making the school greener and being the best we can. Mrs Hockin will push us to new heights and I can't wait!
On Tuesday the 6th of February, the whole school took part in Safer Internet Day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the internet and how to use it safely. The day before, the digital leaders planned an assembly all about how to be safe online.
We asked Berry (one of our Year 6 digital Leaders) what Safer Internet Day is and what the purpose of it was. She said “The purpose of Safer Internet Day was to tell people about the dangers and negatives of the internet and how to act safely online. I really enjoyed Safer Internet Day because it gave us time to acknowledge what we're doing and what choices we make.”
A massive thank you to the Digital Leaders and Mr Jones and Mr Tynan for helping setting up the day.
This week on Monday the year 6 boys played a football match against Coed Glas, the results were unexpected as both Lisvane teams won by a lot. The score for team 1 was 19-2 and for team 2 it was 16-2. The boys played very well scoring a cracking total of 35 goals. This match was cancelled 2 times so there was a lot of excitement for this match. We are looking forward to our next match against Coed Glas and hope the school wins again!
On Friday the 26th of January, the children of Llysfaen Primary were lucky enough to have their own break the rules day!
The children were allowed to break a number of rules. These rules included; wearing their own clothes, wearing fake tattoos, wearing makeup, painting nails and having an unhealthy snack or lunch. Even the teachers broke the rules as they allowed the lucky juniors to have 5 minutes extra morning play!
Thank you to the PTFA for organising it!
