Cwl Cymru

Cwl Cymru

We have had a fabulous 'Cwl Cymru' fortnight in 5AV.  We had great fun learning traditional Welsh folk dances with a Welsh folk band called 'Pluck and Squeeze'!
Also, we had a traditional wood carver in to talk to us about the history of Welsh love spoons.  He explained how he makes them and he told us the meaning behind some of the different symbols that he carves into them.
Our fortnight came to an end today when we celebrated Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant.  We all entered art and handwriting competitions and the winning artists were - 1st Alfie S, 2nd Lucy H, 3rd Sam P and the winning handwriters were - 1st Georgie H, 2nd Saiba A and 3rd Holly P.  Da iawn pawb!  Year 5 also had a competition to recite a Welsh poem 'Yn y Nyth' and Eilidh was the overall winner for 5AV, da iawn Eilidh!  We have some very talented musicians in our class and Amelia and Emily played their flutes beautifully as we walked into our eisteddfod.  Ben and Eilidh competed in the upper juniors instrumental competition and Ben came 1st with his beautiful piano playing, da iawn Ben.  Finally, Sophie and Alex did a super job leading the ceremony for the crowning of the Year 6 Bard.  Da iawn pawb a dda iawn i Ty Glas for winning thehouse singing competition.
