Nursery - RES

Welcome to Llysfaen Nursery

Wow, what a super-duper start to Nursery this year! The children have settled brilliantly and so quickly; independently coming in right from the beginning.

They have been exploring sand and water play, small world and imaginary play, with the dressing up costumes going down a treat too! The children enjoy quiet time in Our Cosy Corner, looking through the books and playing with the puppets. We are also making the most of the outdoor area with many opportunities for physical development using the bikes and climbing equipment.

Currently our theme is Pitter Patter Puddle Play. We will be looking at all the fun things we can do with water. We will be pouring, splashing and making things float and sink. We will also be planting bulbs ready for the spring.

What a fantastic first term the children have had in Nursery. They have been working hard on their number work and speaking and listening skills. They have been on crisp, Autumn walks with their homemade binoculars, made a yummy harvest stew, had ALOT of messy play (as you could probably guess!) We have started PE sessions in the hall with much hopping, skipping and jumping! They have become little cooks, making bread rolls, chocolate sparklers, Pudsey and Christmas biscuits.
We have had such a festive month to end this term with them making their Christmas cards, calendars and stockings. They all looked so smart in their party clothes and got to see Santa too which made many of them smile! We musn't forget their Christmas show aswell, in which they all did so, so well. I'm sure you were as pround of them as we were.

We hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year. See you in 2014!

Well, our first half term back following the Christmas holidays, has flown by! We have talked about Winter and Jack Frost and looked at the differences between Night and Day. The children have learnt the word nocturnal and what it means.
We celebrated Chinese New Year where the children made dancing dragons, stenciled chinese symbols, made lanterns and coloured the chinese flags. For our snack, the children tasted noodles, egg fried rice, prawn crackers, sweet chilli dip and lychees. The lychees didn't go down as well as the rest!
We have celebrated St. David's Day where we joined the rest of the school in the hall to enjoy lots of singing and dancing. We made Welsh ladies and rugby players, coloured in flags and collaged dragons.
The children and teachers celebrated World Book Day and wore some fantastic costumes. We had princesses, pirates and firemen, just to name a few!
The 10th of March saw our 11 eggs arrive, which we will be keeping for two weeks. The children have been fascinated in watching the eggs begin to hatch and the chicks finally coming out. We have 9 so far!

This halfterm we are going to be busy with all things Spring including the lead up to Mother's Day and Easter. We are joining the rest of the school in a whole school art project of decorating butterflies. Nursery will be using paint and feathers. We will hopefully start making the most of the recent sunny weather and begin to explore the school grounds incudng the field, Trim Trail and Junior Jungle.
