  • Rhiwbeina Netball & Football

    Thu 09 May 2024 Amelie McS & Elinor C

On Thursday the 9th of May, Llysfaen played against Rhiwbina in netball and football. The children travelled over to Rhiwbina Primary and split into the netball and football teams. Mr Tynan took the netballers and Mr Jones took the footballers.

The netball match consisted of one team of seven for Llysfaen and two teams of seven for Rhiwbina. The girls played with strength, speed and  determination. The end result was 13-4 to Llysfaen. Both sides were absolutely incredible and worked so hard.

There was a girls team and a boys team for football and the girls won 2-1 however, the boys lost 1-0. It was 0-0 for the boys for most of the game however, during extra time Rhiwbina scored a goal to win the match. Both the matches were very close and the girls only scored their last goal in the last few seconds of extra time!

Well done to both schools for this fantastic experience. A big thank you to Rhiwbina for hosting us.

  • Cool Caerleon!

    Thu 09 May 2024 Stella B-M

On Wednesday the 8th of May, the Year 3’s went on a school trip to Caerleon to learn about the Romans and the Celts. They got to learn about how the Romans lived, and what it would feel like to be a Roman.

One child said, “I loved learning how to march like a Roman. I even got to hold a shield!”

Another child said, “Seeing the barracks was cool because some of the Romans lived in them. We also got to go see the amphitheatre and play around.”

Thank you very much to all the parents and teachers who went on the trip and the staff at Caerleon. All the children were so well behaved and had an awesome time.

Seren in Year 5 placed 1st in her year group and Lucia placed Second in her year group. Osian placed 3rd in his year group. Overall, the Llysfaen ski team did really well and showed really positive sportsmanship and showcased the variety of sporting achievement throughout Llysfaen.

    Tue 07 May 2024 Sonny P, Fraser T, Will B & Osian M-S

We had two matches Vs Coed Glas last week, the girls playing on Monday and the boys on Thursday. The girls football match was an amazing game as it was 20-2 to us and and another 5-1 win which in the end we came out with 2 amazing wins for Llysfaen Primary. And with the man of the match being Emilia and Claudia.

Emilia stated that, 'Our defence was very good and our attack was impressive. The opposing team was also good as they progressed over the game.'

Maja added that, 'everyone played well and we had a fair game, a big thank you to Coed Glas.'

On Thursday our year 6 mixed team played coed glas away, there were two teams, on pitch 1 Llysfaen came out with a 11-0 win but on pitch 2 in the first half they were playing well. But at half time they thought they already had won, but Coed Glas made a comeback to make the score 4-4. Our player of the match on pitch 1 was Lucia and on pitch 2 it was Jago.

  • Stellar School Trip (Year 2!)

    Fri 03 May 2024 Elinor C & Stella B-M

On Friday the 3rd of May, Year 2 went on a school trip to Noah's Ark zoo. This was for their topic, the really wild show which has a theme of animals and wildlife. The children learnt about different animals and their environments.

A child from year 2 said “I really liked the school trip. I had lots of fun. My favourite animals were the elephants and the gibbons. I also liked the millipede crawling over my hand. Its feet felt sticky.”

Another child said “I liked the bus ride. The bus journey was very long but there were tv’s in the bus and we watched Mr Men. I also learnt that one of the elephants shared a birthday with my sister!”

All the children enjoyed the trip and learnt so much. Everyone was so well behaved and listened.  A massive thank you to the parents and teachers who came on this school trip.

  • Super Stackpole!

    Fri 26 Apr 2024 Molly Y & Amelie McS

On Monday 22nd April, the year sixes set off on an exciting trip to Stackpole on a bus. Once they got there, after a long two hour journey they went to broad haven beach and they played football and dug deep holes! The evening activity was playing in a field. There was a swing and a football match, something for everyone!

On Tuesday, the children were split into Group A and group B and went with outer reef to do their activities. Group A went rock pooling whilst group B went raft building, then, after lunch, group A went raft building and group B braved the mud assault course. In the evening the children made garlic bread and had a quiz night.

On Wednesday, after breakfast, Group A went surfing and group B went on a coastal walk. The second activities were just switched so Group A went on a coastal walk and Group B went surfing! The evening activity was the field again!

On Thursday group A did the mud assault course! Everyone was so wet and muddy! Group B went paddle boarding and had a race and did flips into the water! After lunch Group B went Rock pooling and Group a paddle boarded, doing more awesome stunts! The evening activities were making delicious, gooey, sticky smores and packing up since it was the last day.

On Friday the children packed the last bits into their bag before setting off towards the field. The children went on the invisible bridge on their way to the field and enjoyed looking at people on the invisible bridge from a distance because it looked like they were walking on water. Once they made it to the field, they split into small groups and went orienteering for about an hour, then went back to the Stackpole centre to collect their bags. The bus arrived and the children said their last goodbyes to Stackpole before travelling back home on the bus.

  • Remarkable Rotary Club Competition

    Fri 15 Mar 2024 Elinor C & Stella B-M

On the 15th of March, the Rotary Club composition was held at Llanishen High School. Six children were selected from schools around Cardiff to compete. For the competition, the children had to write a speech about a topic of their choice. They then had to debate over the topic. Our very own Stella was selected to compete in the competition. Stella’s speech was about whether teachers should get paid as much as footballers.

The week before, each pupil from the year six classes wrote a speech about a topic of their choice. Once each speech was said and videoed, the teachers had the tough choice of deciding who would represent our school. In the end, Stella was chosen.

Sadly, Stella did not come in the top three. Stella said “I am very proud to have got as far as I did in the competition. Congratulations to the winners.”

Well done to everyone who participated in the competition.

  • Terrific Tree Planting!

    Wed 13 Mar 2024 Molly Y & Amelie McS

On Wednesday the Year 6’s took part in planting trees on our school field because it was suggested when they did pupil voice. The trees are only saplings at the moment but one day they will become fully grown trees for the children in our school to enjoy especially in the summer. The people that helped with planting the trees were very friendly and were very good at guiding the year sixes through the different stages of planting. Everyone really enjoyed it and it was an amazing experience for our year sixes, our school is so lucky to have these opportunities. The trees were planted on the amphitheatre (teletubbie hill) and around the side of the classrooms where they will stay for many more generations to come.

Elinor in 6GJ said: Everyone had an amazing time planting trees! We even named our tree Enid after Enid Blyton because she wrote the magical faraway tree.

Stella in 6BC said: It was really fun and I liked how I impacted on my school and it will be here for generations to come!

Berry from 6BC said: I really enjoyed planting the trees because it gave us time to relax. Also it was apart of our pupil voice, so that made it even better!

  • Girls 5-A-Side Football Finals

    Tue 12 Mar 2024 Berry F

8 outstanding girls went down to Ocean Park Arena on Tuesday the 12th of March. They played 7 AMAZING matches. In the first game the girls had to wear orange bibs because the other team was wearing red and oh my goodness, it did not put them off. They won 9-0 but in the next match they lost 1-0, followed by another 2-1 defeat. They went and begged Mr Jones to let them wear the 'lucky' bibs again and they won the next four matches!

I guess Mr Jones is to blame for the girls not winning the tournament!
