Summary Of The Term!
Fri 22 Dec 2023Looking back from September,
The year’s been a ringer.
From the disco to anti-bullying,
And from house captains to Christmas dinner.
Let’s start with the sport,
There’s been a lot.
Games of netball and football,
Mostly won, but some not.
At the start,
House captains gave their speeches,
And the children voted who,
They wanted to be their leaders.
In October we had a disco.
There was a lot of excitement.
In November, anti-bullying week,
Taught us not to be frightened.
Later on,
Pupils learnt about Diwali and Hanukkah,
And the religions that celebrate them.
It went on Llysfaen primary’s calendar.
Recently,
December, has had its peak,
In Llysfaen Christmas traditions.
They’re such a treat!
The year’s whizzed past,
So much has been done.
We’re looking forward to the next,
It will be a lot of fun.

Exhibition of Year 5 Work
Tue 19 Dec 2023For the last term year 5 have been working on a presentation to celebrate the work on chocolate recently. Year 5 have been using popular apps such as Capcut garage band and iMovie. Using these apps they made a music video. They also have made some chocolate wrappers for their chocolate they made at home. There were loads of parents in the classroom who all really enjoyed seeing the work that their children had done. A wonderful way to celebrate their work at the end of he term!

Carol Service At St Denys
Mon 18 Dec 2023On Monday we embarked on our usual Christmas trip to the church. It was really exciting as Year 6 did their own narration to tell the story of Mary and Joseph. Another thing we did at the church was singing songs as year groups and as a school. This trip to the church couldn't have been possible if it wasn't for Reverend Ross and Reverend Jim.
Towards the end, Ross did a sermon and used a chocolate orange to show the meaning of Christmas. It was dropped and broken into equal parts. The round shape of the chocolate orange represented earth and how without the wrapper (God) inside it was dark and cold. He then opened it and when he put the segments together it represented an angel that came down to earth to save us and tell us everything was better now.

Year 6 World War II Exhibition
Fri 15 Dec 2023On Friday the Year Sixes showed their parents and the year fives, fours and threes their exhibition all about World War Two! The year sixes were very excited to show them their work because they had been working on their boards for the couple of weeks! They had each picked an area of World War Two and worked in teams to collect data on their area of learning, they paraphrased this information into a document and changed the size and font so it was easier to see, then the teachers printed out and cut it down to size so they could stick it on their board.
It took about a day for everyone to complete their board. Everybody helped each other out and it was a whole year group effort. Everybody really enjoyed the exhibition and it was great to see all of their hard work. They all showed off their boards and talked parents through exactly what happened during the topic that they chose to research. really well and only a few fell down! Overall it was a great day and the exhibition went amazing.
This project took around 1 week to finish and a lot of time and thought went into this. The year six children were very proud of their work and they didn't want to stop showing it off.

Nativity! (The better version of the film)
Mon 11 Dec 2023Year one and two have worked hard over the last two weeks to create a fabulous nativity. Over the last fortnight, they have performed three shows to the parents and children. The nativity was led by the staff from ks1. The animals played a huge part in the nativity and added humour to the show.
One child from year one said “ I enjoyed going on stage. It was awesome. I love seeing people in the crowd”.
A year two child said: “I liked that everyone got a part and everyone had a great time”.
Another child said “I liked the songs and I thought we were loud. I was happy I remembered my lines. My favourite song was "We're having a celebration.”
A Year one child: “I liked the singing and the songs”.
Mrs Smith (1CS); “I think the show went wonderfully. I loved it.”
The nativity was a smash hit and it was enjoyed by everyone. The children's confidence grew throughout the show and there were smiley faces all around.

Happy Hannukkah
Thu 07 Dec 2023Hannukkah started on the 7th of December this year. Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of light and is celebrated four days before the new moon. During a war between the Maccabees and the Greeks a Jewish temple had been taken over by the Greeks but the Jews had got it back and to celebrate they wanted to light the holy lamps but there was only enough oil to last one day but then a miracle happened because the oil lasted eight days and nights and that's why Hanukkah is celebrated today! Every day for eight days people of the Jewish faith light one of the candles on a hanukkiah and that represents the eight days and nights that the oil lasted.
On Monday, Mr Cannon, Ben and Jonah led an assembly on the festival to inform and educate the children of Llysfaen about the upcoming festival!
Yesterday Mr & Mrs Eyal-Caruba came in to talk to the year sixes about Hanukkah and gave them all jam doughnuts as they are a traditional treat eaten during the festival! The year sixes were fascinated by the stories they told!

Upcoming Llysfaen Events!
Thu 07 Dec 2023Coming up on the Llysfaen calendar, we can say that we are going to be very busy over the next couple of weeks!
One of the main Christmas traditions here at Llysfaen primary school is the Christmas dinner which this year is on Thursday 14. We asked some of the pupils and staff for their favourite part of their roast dinners. Mr.Jones said that “The stuffing and pigs in blankets are unbelievable.” Also some of the year six said that they enjoy the ice cream but there weren't many raving about the sprouts!
Next week our very own Year 6's will host a World War Two exhibition. They have been working very hard towards this, so they can't wait to show their work off to the school and their parents.
In addition to these two huge events we also have the Foundation phase's nativity to look forward to!
On Monday the 18th we will then be heading down to St. Denys Church in the afternoon for our usual carol service.

Advent Update
Wed 06 Dec 2023Since the start of December, Llysfaen have been uploading their advent videos to get into the festive spirit! 6GJ kickstarted the calendar by creating an incredible video! The next school day brought a wonderful video by 3RL. 4RJ were on Tuesday with yet another fantastic video! The next day brought RHG with a fabulous song performance. 1CH had their moment in the spotlight on Thursday and impressed us all with a very entertaining video!
Keep it up Llysfaen! We can't wait to find out which class awaits us tomorrow!

Llysfaen's Amazing Advent!
Fri 01 Dec 2023This Friday, the first day of the Llysfaen advent calendar will be released on the Llysfaen YouTube channel!
All of the teachers and children have been working their socks off creating these advent songs and are ready to share the finished videos with parents. We hope that you will enjoy these amazing videos and the hilarious jokes that will be playing at the end of every video.
It is always amazing watching the children's faces light up in the morning when we watch the advent songs, especially when it's their siblings' songs, they just love watching all of the amazing ideas that the classes have come up with. We can't wait for you to watch these fantastic videos. Keep your eyes out for the links on twitter and make sure to comment on the twitter posts and like them too!
